Matthew chapter five uses two identical phrases to share a thought; "you have heard that it was said" followed by "eye for an eye" and "hate your enemies", in verses 38 and 43. Our society agrees with those statements. In each place those words are followed with, "But I tell you". Jesus has some radical thoughts about such things. He said in verse (44), "Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (45) that you may be sons of your Father in heaven." We are to have enemies on our prayer list. We are not to have a condemnation list. If we obey, we will be considered sons-daughters of the Father. Who is on your prayer list?
